Art Therapy

Art Therapy

Art Therapy is used by the Speech-Language Pathologists at Breakthrough Therapy as a means to target and improve language skills such as following directions and sequencing. Also, concepts such as qualitative, quantitative, temporal and spatial are found to improve through art therapy. Occupational Therapists also use art therapy as a means to improve fine motor bi-manual hand use such as cutting and prewriting skills. Art therapy is also helpful for children with sensory processing disorders, such as tactile defensiveness, who are on a sensory diet and have a planned set of activities that they are to do throughout the day to control the sensory input they receive.
